Ashar and Chica Advance to Singles Flight Finals

Rice Fall Invitational
Anushka Ashar and Daniela Chica advanced to the finals of their respective singles flights at the Rice Fall Invitational while Darya Schwartzman won her opening match of pre-qualifying singles at the ITA Women's All-American to highlight Saturday action for Rice women's tennis.
Ashar advanced to the Flight 3 final against UTSA's Valeria Sanchez by default, while Chica earned a matchup against Jacqueline Schnabel of Sam Houston after shaking off a first-set loss against Rhea Makesar of UTSA to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Much like Chica, Schwartzman had to bounce back from an opening set loss to defeat Catherine Goldman of Delaware State 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 and will face Emmie Moore of Utah in the second round on Sunday.
Uma Bakaityte lost her first-round match and will play Cal's Greta Greco Lucchina in a consolation match.
