Seventh Owl pitcher drafted since 2022
Houston- Righthanded pitcher Garrett Stratton was selected by the New York Mets in the 20th round of Major League Baseball's Draft on Monday in Atlanta, Georgia.
Stratton enjoyed his most productive season as an Owl in 2025, ranking only behind Jack Ben-Shoshan in appearances (20) and strikeouts (36) out of the bullpen, and was second on the team by stranding 15 inherited baserunners. He worked a career-high 4.0 innings and struck out a career-best six vs. Yale on 3/7 and tossed three shutout innings in relief at Florida Atlantic on March 22 to earn a save in David Pierce's first win at Rice.
He is the second Owl to be drafted by the Mets, joining Philip Humber, who was taken in the first round of the 2004 draft.
Rice has seen seven pitchers drafted in the last four years: Roel Garcia (2022), Hayden Durke, Justin Long, Matthew Linskey (2023), Parker Smith (2024), and Davion Hickson and Garrett Stratton (2025).
