Women’s Basketball Set for Foreign Tour to Italy and Greece

HOUSTON – The Rice women's basketball team will take part in a foreign tour to Italy and Greece next week, featuring two games while touring four cities.
The trip will take place June 1-11, with the Owls stopping in Florence and Rome, Italy, and ending in Athens and Glyfada, Greece.
"Here at Rice, I am always proud of the fact that we can provide our student-athletes with not only a world-class education and top-notch athletics, but also with unique and memorable experiences that enrich their undergraduate years," said Shelley Pennington and Friends Head Coach Lindsay Edmonds. "Our trip to Italy and Greece will be a tremendous opportunity for our team to begin to come together on and off the court as our new faces become ingrained in our family and culture. I am so excited for the experiences ahead and grateful to those who made this possible for our team."
The excursion begins in Florence, where the Owls will face B-League Basketball Sisters (U20) at Palazzetto Marcellino. Rice will take a bike tour and explore the city before departing to Rome to see the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and the Spanish steps.
While in Rome, the team will also face San Raffaele All Stars at Stella Azzurra.
The Owls will then take a flight over to Athens, Greece, where the team will explore the Acropolis and the Plaka Neighborhood. The team will also enjoy a traditional Greek lunch while also enjoying the scenic views of Athens.
A final stop in Glyfada features an island boat tour while also enjoying a relaxing day at the beach to close the trip before the team heads back to Houston.
