Owls Drop Finale, Head To Clearwater as Eighth Seed

Face UTSA on Tuesday
San Antonio: Five UTSA pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout as the Roadrunners closed out a sweep of Rice with a 7-0 win on a steamy Saturday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.
How it Happened: UTSA scored single runs in each of the first four innings while holding Rice hitless until Landon West led off the fifth with a double. The Roadrunners added a pair in the sixth and one in the seventh. The Owls did not have another runner in scoring position until the seventh, when singles by West and Michael Zito put two aboard with two outs.
Up Next: The Owls and Roadrunners will meet again on Tuesday in the opening round of the 2025 AAC Baseball Championship presented by Regions. The top-seeded Roadrunners and the eighth seeded Owls will meet in the second game of the day, which will start 47 minutes after the completion of the opening game of the series.

- Rice fell to 30-24 all-time against UTSA and to 8-13 at Roadrunner Field and has dropped its last its last eight at UTSA's home field.
- The Owls saw their home run streak end at 10 games. The streak was the longest for Rice since homering in 15 consecutive games from April 23-May 22, 2010.
- Trey Duffield made his first appearance on the mound in his career with a scoreless eighth inning, working around a pair of hit batters by inducing a double play and a second ground out to end the inning.
- West collected two of the Owls' four hits, his fourth multi-hit game in a five-game hitting streak (.450, 9x20, with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI).
- Zito's single gave him a hit in 23 of his last 24 AAC games and in 24 of 27 on the season (.308, 30x98).
