No. 72 Owls Conclude Regular Season With 4-0 Win Over UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The 72nd-ranked Rice Owls men's tennis team earned a 4-0 win over the UAB Blazers on Sunday afternoon at the Hoover Met Tennis Center. Rice improves to 13-9 while UAB falls to 8-13.
In doubles play, Rice automatically won court three by default as the Blazers did not field a duo. Arthus de la Bassetiere and Kabeer Kapasi won court two by a score of 6-2, taking the doubles point with the two wins.
In singles play, Rice started with a 2-0 lead as UAB did not field a player at the sixth line. Kapasi then earned his second win of the day with a 6-2, 6-0, win at the fifth line, putting the Owls up 3-0 in a hurry. Kuzmenok would earn the clinching with at the first line, taking down his opponent 6-4, 6-0, to earn Rice's fourth point and 13th win of the season.
Rice turns its attention to the American Athletic Conference Championships taking place in Memphis, Tennessee, from April 17 - 20. Seedings and the bracket will be announced at a later time.
