Bulldogs Take Opener from Owls

Game two set for 2 p.m. Saturday
How it Happened: The Bulldogs scored a pair of unearned runs in the first and added three more in the third. Rice broke through with a pair of runs on Blaine Brown's fifth double of the year, scoring Austin Eppley and Tobias Motley. Brown's hit was the first for the Owls in the game. He was also responsible for the Owls' third run of the night, singling home Landon West who had doubled to open the fifth. Garrett Stratton came on in the fifth and held the Bulldogs in check over a career-high four innings, holding them hitless while striking out a career-high six. Marco Fuentes took the ball in the night and added a fifth shutout inning for the Owls bullpen. Rice closed to within four with a run in the bottom of the eighth. After loading the bases to open the inning, Treyton Rank scored on a double play to draw the Owls within four, but they could do no further damage.
Up Next: Rice and Yale meet in the middle game of the series at 2 p.m. on Saturday before wrapping the series up with an early start on Sunday as the teams meet at 11:30 a.m.

- Rice is 0-2 in series openers and 0-4 on Fridays this season.
- Brown's three RBI were a career high and matched the most by an Owl so far this season.
- He has hit in six of seven home games this season and four of his five doubles have come at Reckling Park.
- Tobias Motley has hit in five straight home games and his hitting .444 this year at Reckling (8x18).
- Stratton's six strikeouts were the most for an Owls' reliever this year and came on a career-high 57 pitches.
