
Wayne Graham Day Highlights Weekend Series

Special ceremonies begin at 4:30 outside Reckling Park
HOUSTON: Rice will celebrate the legacy of legendary head coach Wayne Graham as the Owls host Yale in the first meeting between the schools in baseball with a three-game series over the weekend. The Owls then wrap up a stretch of six games in seven days by hosting Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Monday.
37 DAY ON 3.7: Rice Athletics will celebrate the career of legendary baseball coach Wayne Graham by announcing several special commemorations of his enduring legacy at Rice as part of Wayne Graham Day on Friday, March 7 when the Owls open a weekend series against Yale. All fans are invited to attend a special ceremony outside Reckling Park at 4:30 with additional commemorations on the field prior to Friday's 6:35 first pitch. Fans will receive a Wayne Graham Day Patch as they enter the stadium. As part of the commemoration, the R Association will host an alumni weekend for all former Rice baseball players. Registration is available for all former Owls interested in attending Friday's pregame tailgate as well as discounted tickets for their guests.

OWLS AND BULLDOGS: This will be the first meeting between Rice and Yale in baseball and just the 11th in between the schools in any team sport. The most recent meeting came on the volleyball court in 2016, with Rice sweeping three sets. The Owls are 2-0 against Yale in volleyball, 3-1 in both men's basketball and women's tennis and 1-0 in women's basketball. Rice is 13-4 all-time against Ivy League schools, with Harvard taking three of four at Reckling in 2022 in the most recent meeting. Rice is 8-3 all-time against the Crimson, having defeated Columbia 14-5 at Reckling Park on 3/14/18 in the lone meeting and winning four of five with Cornell, with Cornell taking a 5-3 decision on 3/30/81 to record the league's first win against the Owls.
OWLS AND ISLANDERS: The Owls and Islanders have met 22 times through the years with Rice leading 21-1. They first in a pair of home-and-home games in 1962 & 1963 and then with some regularity starting in 2006. That season, the Owls traveled south for a single game on 2/28 for their first road game of the season, then returned to Corpus less than two weeks later to face the Islanders as well as TCU and Arizona State as part of the Corpus Christi Classic. They met each year from 2006-15 and then met in the 2021 Shriners Classic at Minute Maid Park, with the Owls winning 16-5. The Islanders picked up their first win in the series in 2022e, 12-10 in 2022
