Men’s Basketball Announces Addition to Team

HOUSTON, Texas — Rice men's basketball coach Rob Lanier, with the help of Team IMPACT, has announced the addition of 14-year old Christian Smith of Crosby, Texas to the men's basketball team Wednesday afternoon.
A national organization, Team IMPACT pairs Division I athletic teams with children with life-threatening illnesses. Christian has been diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis & Spastic Paraplegic.
"I'm proud to announce that we get to make an addition to our program," said Lanier. "What we've tried to do in the program is be selective about who joins our program. It's been built on guys with great attitude, mental toughness, and high character. So today signifies a day where we get to make a meaningful addition to a culture that is trending up. Today, with Christian becoming a part of the program, it's a special day for us."
Established in 2011, Team IMPACT has already matched almost 4,000 children with collegiate teams at over 820 institutions in all 50 states, improving the quality of life of hundreds of courageous children and touching the lives of over 95,000 student athletes.
