Next Up: Rice at Lamar, 6 p.m. Tuesday
Boca Raton, FL: FAU broke open a tight battle with a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh and then held off one last rally by Rice to take the weekend series with a 6-4 win at FAU Baseball Stadium on Sunday.
How it Happened: Rice broke through first on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the fourth when Blaine Brown led off and reached when hit by a pitch. He moved to second on ground out and scored on an RBI single by Tobias Motley. FAU answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of an error to put runners at first and third with none out and the score tied. But Alch, who doubled his pitch count for the day with 22 in the fourth, worked out of the jam, retiring the lead runner who tried to score on a ground ball and then a pair of fly ball outs. Rice loaded the bases with one out in the sixth, but could not break the tie, but was able to do so after loading them again in the seventh. Trey Duffield stroked a single to center to score Treyton Rank and Max Johnson who had opened the frame with a single and a walk. Rice reloaded the bases with a two-out walk Landon West but could not add to the lead, setting the stage for FAU's answer in the bottom of the inning. FAU added a run in the bottom of the eighth, but Rice put the tying run to the plate in the ninth, thanks to a pinch-hit single by Graiden West and double by Hiram Bocachica Jr. Blaine Brown brought home West with a ground out to make the final 6-4.
Up Next: Rice remains on the road for a game at Lamar at 6 p.m . on Tuesday.
