No. 42 Rice Wins Fourth-Straight Against Ranked Competition, Downs Memphis 4-3

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The 42nd-ranked Rice women's tennis team extended its winning streak to seven matches, knocking off the 73rd-ranked Memphis Tigers, 4-3, on Friday night at the Leftwich Tennis Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Rice improves to 12-4 while Memphis drops to 4-11.
Memphis would open doubles with a victory on the first court, 6-3, but the tandem of Divna Ratkovic and Anushka Ashar would get Rice back in the doubles portion of the match with a 6-3 win of their own at the third court. The Tigers would end up claiming the doubles point with a 6-4 win at court two, taking a 1-0 lead into the singles competition.
In singles action, Francesca Maguina tied the match at one-all with a 6-0, 6-4 victory on the third line. Nithesa Selvaraj gave Rice a 2-1 lead with a 6-3, 6-1, victory at the fourth line, but the Tigers would tie the match at 2-2 with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the first court. Memphis would push Rice to the brink with a 3-2 lead after winning court gibe, 6-2, 6-4, but the Owls would rally to take the match. Ratkovic at the second like would win her match, 6-3, 6-1, to tie the match at 3-3. In the end, Allison Zipoli would earn the clinch in the competition, winning her three set battle 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, to earn Rice's fourth-consecutive ranked victory and seventh-straight win.
Rice returns to action on Sunday morning to take on the 38th-ranked Furman Paladins.
