Owls Swimming Moves to Third in NIC Women's Standings

OCALA, Florida - Rice swimming earned five top-five finishes in the second day of the CSCAA National Invitational Championship, moving up to third in the women's team standings.
PRELIMS
In the 400 IM Prelims, Ella Dyson secured a spot in the B Finals with a time of 4:21.80, while three Owls secured spots in the A Final, as Reese Cole (4:19.09), Amelia Kane (4:17.39), and Lily Cramer (4:18.72) finished in the threshold for the A Final.
Arielle Hayon earned a spot in the 100 Yard Butterfly A Final with a time of 53.69.
Rice had two earn finals spots in the 200 Yard Freestyle, as Ava Hamblett earned a B Final qualification with a time of 1:50.82, while Ava Portello earned an A Finals spot with a time of 1:49.09.
Three Owls earned finalist qualifications in the 100 Yard Backstroke, starting with Hamblett's second B Final of the day at 54.61. Mimi Filkin (54.49) and Abigail King (54.17) both earned A Finals spots.
FINALS
To open up finals action, the 200 Yard Medley Relay quartet of Abigail King, Siiri Einion, Jessica Lawton, and Filkin earned seventh-place with a final time of 1:40.59.
In the 400 IM Finals, Cole was the top finisher for the Owls with a 4:15.29 time, shaving nearly four full seconds off her prelims time. Kane followed up in seventh with a final time of 4:17.86, and Cramer rounded out the Owls in the A Final with a ninth place finish at 4:20.97. Dyson finished 18th in the B Final with a time of 4:19.79, shaving off two seconds from her prelim time.
In the 100 Fly, Hayon finished in third place in the A Final with a time of 52.83, cutting down about .8 seconds from her original time. Lawton finished in 18th in the B Final with a time of 54.83.
Portello was the top Owl in the 200 Free, finishing in fifth place with a time of 1:48.05 in the A Final, just over a second faster than her prelim time. Hamblett finished in 18th with a time of 1:50.90.
In the final individual event of the day, King earned a fourth place finish in the 100 Back A Final, with a final time of 53.85, a little over .3 seconds faster than her prelim time. Filkin finished in ninth in the A Final with a time of 54.59. Hamblett was the top finisher in the B Final with a time of 54.07, just over half a second faster than her prelim time.
To round out the night, Rice earned a fifth place finish in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay. The quartet of Portello, Kane, Hamblett, and Cole earned a final time of 7:20.09.
