Rice Ends National Invitational Championship in Third Place

OCALA, Florida - Rice swimming concluded the CSCAA National Invitational Championship with a third place finish in the women's team standings on Saturday at FAST Florida in Ocala.
PRELIMS
Three Owls earned their way into the 1650 Yard Freestyle final, with Ella Dyson (16:20.26), Amelia Kane (16:21.03), and Ava Portello (16:23.43) finishing with three of the top five times in the preliminary race.
In the 100 Yard IM, Rice had a B and A Finalist emerge in the event. Reese Cole earned her way into the B Final with a time of 56.63, and Arielle Hayon earned a spot in the A Final with a final time of 56.48.
In the 200 Yard Backstroke, the Owls earned two B Finalists in Ava Hamblett (1:58.39) and Mimi Filkin (1:59.15).
Rice earned two more B Finalists in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with Lily Cramer (2:16.37) and Cole (2:15.89) both earning spots in the B Final.
Hayon earned her second A Final of the day in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:59.67, posting a top-five time in the second heat.
FINALS
Rice took the top two spots in the 1650 Free Final, with Dyson finishing in first with a time of 16:20.79 and Portello finishing in second with a time of 16:24.51. Kane finished in ninth place with a time of 16:51.11 to be the third Owl to claim a top-10 finish.
In the 100 IM B Final, Cole finished in fifth place with a time of 55.80, improving her time by nearly a full second from prelims. In the A Final, Hayon earned a 10th place finish with a time of 56.45, taking three-hundredths of a second off her prelim time.
In the 200 Back B Final, Hamblett earned a fourth place finish with a time of 1:57.77, while Filkin was not far behind at sixth place with a time of 1:58.10.
The 200 Breast B Final saw Cole earn a fourth place finish with a time of 2:14.48, cutting over a second off her prelim time. Cramer finished in 10th place with a final time of 2:18.70.
In the final individual event for the Owls, Hayon finished in fourth with a time of 1:58.28, cutting over a second off her prelim time.
To round out Rice's time in Ocala, the 400 Free Relay quartet finished in fourth place with a final time of 3:22.48.
Rice finished in third place in the women's team standings with a total of 599 points. The only teams ahead of the Owls were Akron (650) and Queens (Charlotte) (504.5).
