IRVING – Rice sophomore Lily Archibald was named the American Conference Swimming Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
The Owls opened their season with a first-place finish at the Rice Fall Splash, totaling 998 points and 18 event victories. Archibald led the way with three individual wins and two first-place relay finishes.
Archibald won the 100-yard butterfly in 54.02 seconds, ranking first in the American Conference. She also placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (23.12) and 100-yard individual medley (59.38), with both times ranking fourth in the conference.
In relay action, Archibald helped Rice win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:34.18 and the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:29.48. She also contributed to the Owls' second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay, which finished in 3:48.46.
Rice will return to the competition pool this weekend when it hosts Arkansas. The meet begins at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, and continues at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Rice Competition Pool.
