TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Rice swimming and diving team finished second at its season opener in the Seminole Fall Classic on Saturday.
The Owls placed second out of four teams with a score of 250. Host Florida State's A team took first with 360 points, and West Virginia finished third with 205.5.
"This was a great early season test," head coach Seth Huston said. "It was great to get a glimpse of how we responded to racing, fatigue and a quick, even turnaround."
Ava Portello won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:50.08, while Ava Hamblett took first in the 200 backstroke in 1:58.39.
Diver Antonina Harmed placed second in the 1-meter event with a score of 246.95.
The Owls will host the Dual-A-Poolooza on Oct. 10 at the Rice Competition Pool. TCU, Houston and Villanova are scheduled to compete.
