Rice Finishes Regular Season at Houston on Saturday

HOUSTON - The Rice Owls swim and dive teams concluded the regular season on Saturday with the UH First Chance Meet. The Owls will be off until February 19, when they head to Dallas to take part in the American Athletic Conference Championship.
In Saturday morning's preliminary action, Arielle Hayon nabbed the Owls' first top finish with a time of 53.62 in the 100 Fly.
Rice's next top-five finish came in the 100 Breast, where Megan Schultze posted a fourth place finish with a time of 1:04.49, posting a new season-best.
Ava Hamblett won Rice's second event of the day in the 100 Back with a time of 54.82. Reese Cole continued her strong freshman campaign with a fifth place finish of 57.10, with Neta Ussishkin right behind her at 57.36.
The finals in the morning saw Hayon win the 100 Fly Final with a time of 53.66, while Lizzie Zadel earned a podium finish with a time of 57.01, good for third place.
Schultze earned a podium finish in the 100 Breast Final with a third place finish and a time of 1:04.81. Morgan Bartley just barely missed the podium with a time of 1:05.81.
Hamblett won the 100 Back Final with a time of 54.76, with Cole placing fourth with a time of 56.84.
In the diving finals, Megan Phillip finished in the top half of divers in the three meter dive with a score of 282.45. Rylee Coyne finished in the top 10 with a final score of 245.90.
In the one meter dive, Phillip finished in sixth place with a score of 279.40, while Coyne finished with a score of 233.00.
To wrap up the diving events, Phillip finished the platform dive with a score of 197.25, and Coyne finished with a score of 156.40.
Resuming swimming events, Mimi Filkin earned the top spot in the 200 Back prelims with a final time of 1:59.67.
In the 100 Free prelim, Mollie McAlorum finished in second place with a time of 51.41.
The 200 Breast prelim saw Schultze post a time finish with a time of 2:20.74, while Michaela Koltz rounded out the podium with a time of 2:23.21.
In the 200 Fly prelim, Sydney Morgan finished in third place with a time of 2:03.74.
To begin finals action in the afternoon slot, Amelia Kane, Ava Portello, and Ella Dyson finished one-two-three in the 1650 Free Final, with times of 16:21.03, 16:26.29, and 16:28.89.
Filkin won the 200 Back Final with a time of 2:00.39 to earn her first finals victory of the day.
Mollie McAlorum earned her first collegiate event victory with a 50.96 in the 100 Free Final.
Schultze earned her first finals victory of the day with a 2:20.74 in the 200 Breast Final. Koltz finished in third place with a time of 2:23.21.
To conclude action for the Owls, Morgan earned a podium finish in the 200 Fly Final with a time of 2:04.41, good for third place.
