HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's tennis team will return to the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Friday evening to host the LSU Tigers of the Southeastern Conference. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Rice enters the match-up with the Tigers with a 3-3 record. After starting the season at 3-0 with sweeps over UTRGV and Prairie View A&M (twice), the Owls faced three-straight Power Four opponents in then top-ranked Texas, Arkansas, and Baylor, falling in each of those matches. LSU comes into the match with a 6-2 record, winners of four-straight over UAB (twice), Memphis, and New Orleans.
Through 20 matches between the two programs all-time, LSU leads the overall series by four games at 12-8. The last time the two programs met was early in the 2024 season, where LSU defeated Rice 6-1 in Baton Rouge. The Tigers currently have a five-match win streak over the Owls dating back to 2019. Rice last beat LSU in 2018, defeating the Tigers 4-3 at home.
Friday's match will feature Beer Fest at the George R. Brown Tennis Center. The first 80 fans in the gate will get free hot dogs courtesy of True Dog Houston. Additionally, several hard beverage vendors, including 2Hoots, Tejas, Stateside, and Surfside will provide free samples of their beverages at the match.
