HOUSTON – Rice men's tennis will host the 68th Ralph O'Connor Rice Invitational Oct. 16-18 at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
The invitational celebrates its 68th year and the eighth installment under the Ralph O'Connor Rice Invitational name. O'Connor, a longtime supporter of Rice University and its tennis program, played a significant role in the development of Rice tennis after arriving in Houston in the early 1950s. The tournament was renamed in his honor in 2019.
The tournament began as a singles and doubles championship at Glencrest Country Club in Houston before transitioning to a dual-match format in 1989. Rice has won 19 of the last 32 team titles, continuing its strong history at the annual event.
Traditionally held in the spring as a team competition, the invitational will feature a new format this fall, with two-player teams competing in singles and doubles across three separate draws. Teams will advance through their respective brackets, with a champion crowned in each draw on Sunday. Rice won the team title at the spring 2026 invitational.
The three-day event will feature competitors from Lamar, Texas A&M, UTRGV, Tulane, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, SMU, UIW, UT Arlington and Abilene Christian, along with the host Owls. Competition begins Friday at 9 a.m. at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
