
Fisher’s Career Night Not Enough Against Tulane

HOUSTON – The Rice women's basketball team couldn't overcome a second-quarter deficit, falling to Tulane 78-67 Wednesday night at Tudor Fieldhouse. The Owls fall to 12-11 (5-6 AAC), while Tulane moves to 15-7 (8-3 AAC).
Malia Fisher led the Owls with a career-high 32 points on 12-of-22 shooting while adding six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Dominique Ennis added 11 points, six rebounds and three steals, while Victoria Flores rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points, three rebounds and one steal.
As a team, Rice shot 27-of-58 (46.6%) from the floor and 4-of-11 (36.4%) from three-point range. The Owls added a 9-of-16 (56.3%) showing from the free throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
Tulane scored the game's first four points before Flores got the Owls going with a 9-0 run, with Aniah Alexis, Fisher and a Flores triple capping off the run. Leading by two, Fisher and Ennis connected on back-to-back scores, with Flores following with another triple as Rice took a 16-7 lead. After Tulane gained the lead, Ennis hit a last-second shot as Rice led 23-22 at the end of the first.
Second Quarter
The Green Wave took a three-point lead to open the second, with Fisher countering to bring Rice within one. Down by six, Sussy Ngulefac and Fisher cut the deficit to two. Following another Tulane run, Ngulefac answered again to make it a five-point game. Tulane closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 47-35 lead.
Third Quarter
Alexis and Fisher got the scoring started in the third, with Ngulefac following to open a 6-0 run, forcing a Tulane timeout. After Tulane extended its lead to nine, Ennis hit a three to bring Rice back within six. The Green Wave pushed their lead back to double digits, leading 63-52 after three.
Fourth Quarter
After several Tulane scores, Fisher got the Owls going again on offense. After trading scores and Tulane extended the lead further, Fisher sparked an 11-1 run to close the gap, but time would fall short of any comeback as Tulane went on to win 78-67.

Rice will have a week off before heading back on the road to face South Florida next Wednesday.
