Abdulky Leads Rice at Day One of AAC’s

BIRMINGHAM – The Rice men's track and field team saw several great showings throughout day one of the AAC Championships in Birmingham, Ala. The Owls scored points in three events on the day, with three Owls reaching the finals in their events.
Cal Abdulky had the only podium visit of the day, finishing as the runner-up in the weight throw with a throw of 19.90m.
The Owls' DMR team of Marcus Gaitan, Evan Ringwald, Jordan Edmondson and Jackson Moran had a fifth-place showing.
Matt Kumar added points with a seventh-place finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.66m.
Christian Edgar (60m hurdles), William Thames (800m) and Marcus Gaitan (800m) all advanced to tomorrow's finals.
Luke Ivy also looks to have a strong finish tomorrow in the heptathlon, where he currently sits seventh.
