HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's tennis team will take on the Florida Atlantic Owls on Thursday, February 20. The match is slated to begin at 11:15 a.m. at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center.
Rice comes into the match with a 6-3 record after a 2-0 weekend, which included wins over the Lamar Cardinals on Friday (6-1) and the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Sunday (4-2). Florida Atlantic enters the match with a 1-6 record, falling in two of three matches the Owls played last week. FAU most recently fell to South Florida (4-3) and UCSB (4-1) over the weekend, but did earn its first victory of the year on Wednesday over North Florida, 4-0.
In the overall series, FAU holds the lead over Rice, 4-1. Rice's lone victory over the FAU Owls came in 2009, where Rice took down FAU 4-2 in Boca Raton. Since then, FAU has earned three victories over Rice, including defeating the Rice Owls in the only match played at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Despite this being the first conference opponent Rice faces this season, the match does not count as a conference match. The American Athletic Conference does not sponsor head-to-head matches between conference teams, so any matches between conference teams do not count towards a conference record.
