Schwatrzman Advances to the Semifinals

FORT WORTH — Rice continued its strong showing at the ITA Women's Texas Regional on Sunday.
Darya Schwartzman defeated third-seeded Daria Smetnikova 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals. After dropping the opening set, Schwartzman battled back to take control and win the final two sets.
She will face Kailey Murphy in Monday's semifinal at 11 a.m. With a win, Schwartzman would qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship and become the first Owl in program history to do so.
In doubles play, Divna Ratkovic and Anushka Ashar defeated Tomi Main and Letizia Corsini 8-6 to advance to the consolation finals, where they will face Sophie Llewellyn and Addison Yang Comiskey at 8:30 a.m.
Francesca Bunikowska will also be in action Monday, facing Tomi Main in the consolation singles semifinals. Match time is to be determined.
