Rice Continues Success at ITA Texas Regional

FORT WORTH — The Rice women's tennis team posted a 4-3 record in singles and a 2-0 mark in doubles Friday at the ITA Texas Regional, hosted by TCU.
Four Owls advanced to the Round of 32 in singles after earning straight-set victories. Nithesa Selvaraj, Darya Schwartzman, Divna Ratkovic and Uma Bakaityte each moved on in the main draw and will return to the court at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Selvaraj defeated Valeriia Krohotina of Houston, 6-4, 6-3, and will face Addison Comiskey of SMU. Schwartzman topped Masha Vrsalovic of Abilene Christian by the same score and will meet Emma Persson of Tarleton.
Ratkovic posted a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over Tomi Main of TCU and is set to face Texas A&M's Violeta Martinez. Bakaityte earned a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Tarleton's Duru Kuscu and will take on Kennedy Gibbs of Baylor.
In doubles play, Schwartzman and Bakaityte cruised to an 8-0 win over ACU's Klinteby and Vrsalovic. Ema Mravcova and Daniela Chica also opened strong with an 8-1 win over UIW's Alexandra Mille and Luciana Paez.
Play continues Saturday with main draw singles and doubles.
