Top-Ranked Texas Takes Down Rice, 4-0

AUSTIN, Texas - The Rice Owls men's tennis team fell against the top-ranked Texas Longhorns, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at the University of Texas North Courts to open the ITA Kickoff Weekend. Rice will await to see who it faces tomorrow between Arkansas and Georgia Tech.
In doubles action, the seventh-ranked duo of Lucas Brown and Timo Legout from Texas blanked Rice's 43rd-ranked duo of Arthus de la Bassetiere and Kabeer Kapasi, 6-0, to open doubles play. Texas would then clinch the doubles point with a 6-2 victory over Santiago Navarro and Petro Kuzmenok at the No. 2 position. The final court of doubles play was abandoned due to Texas clinching the point.
In singles, third-ranked Legout defeated de la Bassetiere, 6-2, 6-1, to take the first singles point and put the Longhorns up 2-0. Second-ranked Horzny followed that victory up with one of his own, defeating Kuzmenok 6-3, 6-3, for Texas's third point of the match. The Longhorns' Sebastian Eriksson clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Tommy Czaplinski at court five.
Rice will await the results of the Arkansas vs. Georgia Tech match to find out who the Owls will match up with tomorrow.
