
Rice has 300 Athletes Named AAC All-Academic

IRVING – In Rice Athletics' debut season in the American Athletic Conference, the Owls had a conference-leading 300 student-athletes earn AAC All-Academic honors, conference commissioner Tim Pernetti announced Friday morning.
In total, the AAC had 3,532 student-athletes selected to the All-Academic Team, a new conference record.
In addition, the Owls collected a league-leading five AAC Team Academic Excellence Awards, with football, men's golf, men's indoor track & field, women's indoor track & field and women's outdoor track & field all taking the honors.
This marked the 10th consecutive year that football and men's track and field have collected team excellence honors, with the previous nine being from Conference USA.
Golf earned its seventh team academic award in the last eight years, while women's track and field grabbed its third consecutive conference academic excellence honor.
ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the AAC member institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in an AAC-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
