Owls to Face Three SEC Schools at ’25 Astros Foundation Classic

Houston-Rice will take on three schools from the SEC at the 2025 Astros Foundation College Classic, including 2024 College World Series champion Tennessee and CWS runner-up Texas A&M. The annual event will run from February 28 to March 2, 2025 at Minute Maid Park and will also feature Arizona, Mississippi State and Oklahoma State.
The Owls will open the 2025 classic when they face Mississippi State at 11:05 on Friday and open Saturday's play by facing Tennessee at 11:05. They will close the weekend of baseball by taking on Texas A&M at 6:05 on Sunday.
The meeting between Rice and Mississippi State will be the second between the schools. The Bulldogs eliminated the Owls 15-14 in the 1998 NCAA Regional at College Station on their way to advancing to the College World Series.
Rice and Tennessee have met once, with Rice taking an 11-1 win at the 2012 Astros' Classic.
Rice and Texas A&M have met 288 times, dating back to the Owls' first game in the Southwest Conference in 1914. The schools have faced off eight times on the Astros' home field (4-4).
This will be the Owls' 19th appearance in the Astros early-season college baseball showcase. Rice swept games against Baylor, Texas, and Texas Tech in the inaugural event in 2001 and played in the first 14 before not appearing in 2015.
