
Charlotte Clinches Series With Doubleheader Sweep

Charlotte, North Carolina: Charlotte clinched the series with Rice with a 9-3 win to sweep the doubleheader on Friday.
The Details: After the teams traded scoreless frames for the first two innings, Rice took its only lead by scoring two runs in the top of the third. With one out, Jacob Devenny walked and stole second base. Ben Dukes followed with a walk and Treyton Rank loaded the bases when he was hit by a pitch. Jack Riedel laced a single off the first baseman's glove to bring home Devenny with the game's first run. Pierce Gallo followed with a walk to bring in Dukes, but Charlotte cut off any further threat with an inning-ending double play. The 49ers answered with one run in the bottom of the third and then took the lead with three runs in the fourth They added two in the fifth but the Owls cut the lead to three with a run in the seventh. Devenny singled with one out and advanced to second on a wild pitch before coming home on a single by Dukes that bounced by the 49ers' leftfielder to allow Devenny to score. Charlotte answered back with a run in the bottom of the seventh and added two in the eighth.
