Max Fiedler to Participate in 70th Annual Portsmouth Invitational

HOUSTON — Fifth-year senior Max Fiedler has been selected to participate 70th version of the prestigious Portsmouth Invitational, set for April 17-20 at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Va.
In existence since 1953, the Portsmouth Invitational is one of the preeminent NBA pre-draft camps with approximately 200 NBA representatives in attendance. The four-day tournament consists of 12 games with the 64 invited college seniors playing on eight teams of eight players.
Fiedler will be playing for Portsmouth Partnership squad in the tournament and will team with Ali Ali (Akron), Ta'Lon Cooper (South Carolina), Marcus Domask (Illinois), Sean East II (Missouri), Jesse Edwards (West Virginia), DJ Horne (North Carolina State), and Malevy Leons (Bradley).
Fiedler is one of just four players from the AAC in the Portsmouth Invitational, joining Kevin Cross (Tulane), Eric Gaines (UAB), and Jahvon Quinerly (Memphis).
A Preseason Second Team All-American Athletic Conference selection, Fiedler became the first player in NCAA Division I history to record 1,000 career points, 1,000 rebounds, 500 assists, 100 blocks, and 100 steals. For the year, he averaged 9.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists. He placed second in the AAC in rebounding, was third in field goal percentage (.663), assists, assist/turnover ratio (2.25), and sixth in double-doubles (9) and defensive rebounds (5.5). He also led the league in offensive rebounds (3.7).
Fiedler's field goal percentage of 66.3% is the third highest in a season in school history and his 169 assists were the fourth-most. He finished his career as Rice's all-time leader in rebounds (1,144), assists (571), assist/turnover ratio (1.81), field goal percentage (65.8%), games played (148) and games started (135). Is also second in blocks (125), and eighth in field goals made (601).
The Indialantic, Fla., native had 15 games with 10+ points and a team-high 15 with 10+ rebounds. Fiedler led the team in rebounds 27 times and assists 25 times.
