
Men's Tennis Caps Regular Season with 4-3 Win at UTSA

HOUSTON, Texas — Rice men's tennis capped off its regular season with a 4-3 marathon victory at UTSA on Sunday at the UTSA Tennis Center. With the win, the Owls improved to 5-1 versus AAC opponents this season.
Doubles: Senior Yasha Zemel and sophomore Kabeer Kapasi led the Owls in doubles play, extending their unbeaten streak to eight matches with a 6-2 win at the first position. With the opening point coming down to the No. 3s, juniors Arthus de la Bassetiere and Eduardo Morais held strong for a 7-5 victory to secure the 1-0 lead for Rice.
Singles: The two sides battled back and forth for much of singles play. The Roadrunners claimed wins at the first and third positions to take the lead before freshman Petro Kuzmenok tied the match at 2-2 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the fifth position. Junior Emir Sendogan then matched the exact same scoreline, winning, 6-2, 6-4, at the fourth spot to reclaim the lead for Rice. UTSA again tied the match at 3-3 with a win at the No. 2s, leaving the outcome to Kapasi at the sixth position. In a three-set battle, the Houston native rebounded after the first set to secure the 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win and clinch the victory for the Owls.
Up Next: The Owls head to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to compete in their first-ever AAC Championships on Thursday through Sunday, April 18-21. Rice finished the regular season with a 16-7 overall record.
