
Rice Earns First AAC Victory with 4-2 Win over Tulane

HOUSTON — Rice picked up its first American Athletic Conference victory, defeating Tulane, 4-2, in the series finale, Sunday afternoon at Reckling Park.
Rice jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. After Jack Riedel reached on a hit by pitch, Treyton Rank doubled to center field. Riedel then scored the game's first run on a ground ball by Nathan Becker.
The Owls added a pair in the second. With one out, Tobias Motley walked and moved to second on a single by Jacob Devenny. Ben Royo then tapped one in front of the plate. Tulane catcher Colin Tuft attempted to force Motley at third, but his throw sailed down the left field line, allowing Motley to score. Kyte McDonald followed with a single to bring in Devenny and stake Rice to a 3-0 lead.
Rice added another run in the fifth when Nathan Becker poked a single through the right side to score Rank.
Tulane cut the lead in half with runs in the sixth and seventh innings. But Tyler Hamilton, Tom Vincent and Davion Hickson allowed no hits in the final 2.1 innings to preserve Rice's first AAC victory.
Ryland Urbanczyk earned his first win of the season. Will Clements took the loss for the Green Wave.

Rice travels to Huntsville this Tuesday, Mar. 26 for a midweek game at Sam Houston. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.

*Treyton Rank went 2x4 with a double to extend his hitting streak to a career-long 10 games.
