
Rice Drops Series to Tulane

HOUSTON — Tulane scored seven runs in the final three innings as Rice dropped Game Two of the series, 10-1, Saturday afternoon at Reckling Park.
Both teams threatened in the second inning. Tulane loaded the bases with two outs. But JD McCracken induced a ground out to Colin Tuft to get out of the inning. Rice put two on with one out behind a walk and a hit by pitch. But, Pierce Gallo flew out and Ben Royo struck out to end the inning.
The Green Wave broke through in the fourth inning. With one out, Colin Tuft doubled to center field, scoring Gavin Schultz. TU added a pair in the fifth. Teo Banks hit a one out double to right, scoring Marcus Cline. Two batters later, Schultz singled, bringing in Banks.
Rice got on the board in the fifth when Jack Riedel hit his team-leading seventh home run to right center. It was just the 10th home run that Tulane has allowed this year.
Tulane got it back in the seventh before breaking the game open with five runs in the eighth. It added a run in the ninth to close the game.
Chandler Welch went 8.0 innings for the Green Wave, allowing seven hits. JD McCracken took the loss, allowing three runs, all unearned, on six hits in 5.2 innings.

Rice and Tulane will play the series finale tomorrow at 1 p.m. Tucker Alch will make his third start of the year.
