Mekhi Mason Named AAC Player of the Week

HOUSTON — After leading Rice to a road sweep, sophomore Mekhi Mason was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
It is his first career Player of the Week honor.
Mason averaged 23.5 points and 1.5 assists in victories at Memphis and UTSA. He began the week by scoring a team-high 17 points, including 15 in the second half, in Rice's 74-71 victory at Memphis. He connected on 7-of-10 from the field, including 2-of-3 from three.
He followed that up by scoring a career-high 30 points in Rice's 80-76 win at UTSA, his first career 30-point game. He was 11-of-19 from the floor, 3-of-7 from three, and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. On the week, Mason connected on 62.1% (18-of-29) from the field and 50.0% (5-of-10) from three.
Mason will lead the Owls in a pair of home games this week, beginning Wednesday, Feb. 7, against SMU. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be streamed by ESPN+.
