Rice hosts LSU at 7 p.m. on Wednesday
Lafayette, LA: Three Louisiana pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout as the Ragin' Cajuns averted a sweep at home by downing Rice 3-0 at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Details: Sophomore Ryland Urbanczyk started for the Owls and allowed only two runs over a career-high five innings of work. Louisiana took its first lead of the series on an RBI ground out and a two-out solo homer in the third and added a solo homer in the eighth to account for the offense. Rice was held off the bases until Pierce Gallo's leadoff single in the fifth. Gallo was stranded at second as was Kyte McDonald after a leadoff double in the seventh as the Owls, who had 23 at-bats with runners in scoring position in the first two games, were held to five chances on Sunday.
Next Up: The Owls return to Reckling Park to open a five-game homestand on Wednesday night by hosting defending national champion LSU in a special 7 p.m. start time. They welcome 2023 CWS participant Stanford to Reckling over the weekend of March 1-3 and wrap up the homestand on Tuesday, March 5 with Prairie View.
