Late Surge Gives Irish the Win

The Details: After the Fighting Irish scored in the top of the first, Rice answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Riedel drilled the first pitch he saw over the right field wall to tie the game 1-1. One out later Nathan Becker walked, Pierce Gallo singled, and Garza brought home Becker with the first of his four hits on the day. After Notre Dame tied the game 2-2 in the top of the third, Rice jumped back in front in the bottom of the fourth on a Riedel sacrifice fly. The Irish tied it again in their next at-bats only to see Brendan Cumming push Rice back in front with an RBI triple to score Garza. That lead held until the eighth when Notre Dame took the lead for good 6-4 in the top of the eighth on a pair of home runs and they added to that advantage with three in the ninth. Garza plated the Owls' last run of the day with an RBI double in the ninth.
Up Next: The teams close out the first-ever series between the schools at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

- Rice starter J.D. McCracken worked into the sixth and allowed just one earned run (5.1, 2, 3, 1, 3,4).
- Garza's four hits matched his effort vs. UTSA on 4/16/22
- Cummings' triple was his first hit as an Owl after transferring from Princeton.
- Treyton Rank's bunt single in the third inning was his first as an Owl.
