
Owls Fall on Road to Louisiana

LAFAYETTE – The Rice women's basketball team fell on the road 64-54 against Louisiana Saturday afternoon at the Cajundome. The Owls fall to 6-4 on the season, while Louisiana moves to 4-3.
Hailey Adams led the Owls with 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Emily Klaczek rounded out the Rice double-digit scorers with 11 points, four rebounds and two assists.
As a team, Rice shot 19-of-64 (29.7%) from the field and 7-of-36 (19.4%) from three-point range. The Owls were 9-of-15 (60%) from the free throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
A pair of Ragin' Cajun baskets opened the game before Sussy Ngulefac got the Owls on the board. Down by four, a Dominique Ennis three-pointer cut the deficit to one. Rice trailed 13-10 at the end of the first.
Second Quarter
Following a Louisiana score, Jill Twiehaus hit a three, with Klaczek hitting another soon after to cut the deficit to one point. Klaczek later gave Rice the lead, with Adams later giving Rice a three-point lead. A quick run put the Cajuns in front, with Aniah Alexis countering with a triple to take back the lead. The Cajuns tied the game 27-27 at the half.
Third Quarter
Ngulefac and Adams traded baskets with Louisiana to open the third, with Ennis' layup giving the Owls a 35-33 advantage. After the Cajuns took a three-point lead, Klaczek evened the score with a triple. Rice trailed 42-40 at the end of the third.
Fourth Quarter
After Louisiana took a four-point lead, Victoria Flores hit a three to cut the deficit to one. Down by six, Ennis' three, followed by Klaczek's and-one conversion, tied the game at 49-49 with 5:09 left. After Adams gave Rice the lead, a 7-0 run by the Ragin' Cajuns gave them a five-point lead. Rice cut the deficit to two points, but Louisiana used free throws the rest of the way to take the win.

Rice returns to Tudor Fieldhouse next Friday to face Texas Southern.
