Women's Tennis Earns Four Victories in Second Day of Rice Invite

HOUSTON - Rice earned four total wins, including three wins in three singles competitions during the second day of the Rice Invitational.

The day began with the doubles competitions, where the tandem of Darya Schwartzman and Fernanda Martinez took down another duo from a Power 4 institution, this time defeating Salakthip Ounmang and Gloriana Nahum of Oklahoma, 6-4.

In singles action, Schwartzman was the first to earn a victory, advancing in the bracket due to an injury that forced the competitor to retire in the second set. Next, Nithesa Selvaraj followed that with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Lizanne Boyer from Texas A&M. Finally, in the consolation bracket, Anushka Ashar earned her first victory of the invitiational by taking down Valentina Urraco of UTRGV, 6-1, 6-3.

The Rice Invitational will conclude Sunday from the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
