PREVIEW: Rice Tandem Begins Path to NCAA Championship

WACO, Texas - The Rice men's tennis tandem of Arthus de la Bassetiere and Kabeer Kapasi will open their run in the NCAA Individual Championships on Wednesday from the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
The two begin their run in the tournament in the Round of 32, where they will face off against the fourth-seeded duo of Luciano Tacchi and Luca Pow from Wake Forest.
Should the Owls take down the duo, their road to the championship would continue with another set of Power 4 opponents, facing the winner of Mario Martinez Serrano and Niccolo Baroni from Mississippi State or the duo of Facundo Yunis and Jip van Assendelft from Indiana.
Path to the NCAA Tournament
Arthus de la Bassetiere and Kabeer Kapasi qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships via the ITA Sectionals. First, the duo defeated the tandem of Louis Bowden and Quintan Van Wijk of Baylor, 7-6, 6-2, to advance to the ITA Sectionals Quarterfinals. In that round, the two beat Asahi Harazaki and Luis Alvaez Valdez, 6-4, 3-6, 13-11, to make it to the semifinals. For the third day in a row, Rice's duo defeated a Power 4 tandem by taking down Bryce Nakashima and Will Jansen, 7-6 (4), 6-2, to earn a spot in the finals and clinch an automatic bid to the NCAA Individual Championship.
