Men's Tennis Set for ITA Kickoff Weekend

HOUSTON – The Rice men's tennis team will compete at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Stanford, Calif., this weekend.
Rice will open play against Oregon on Friday at 2 p.m. The Owls will then face either No. 3 ranked Stanford or Utah on Saturday at a time to be determined.
The Owls will look to earn a spot in the NCAA Indoor National Championship, hosted by SMU in Dallas beginning Feb. 17. The Kickoff Weekend features a 56-team field, with 14 teams advancing to the national championship. Each host site, including Stanford, features a four-team bracket with one team advancing.
Rice leads the all-time series against Oregon 3-1, though the Ducks earned a 4-2 win in the most recent meeting in 2017. Stanford holds a 2-1 edge in the series, with the Cardinal posting a 4-1 victory in the last matchup in 2016. Rice and Utah have met once, with the Owls earning a 4-2 win in 1998 in Tulsa, Okla.
The Owls enter the weekend with a 1-1 record after opening the season with a 5-2 loss to Arkansas before defeating UTRGV 4-1 the following day.
