Anglin’s Career Day Leads Rice to 83-61 Victory at Louisiana

LAFAYETTE, La. – Denver Anglin scored a career-high 20 points and Rice used strong second half defense to earn an 83-61 victory at Louisiana, Tuesday night at the Cajundome.
The Story
Rice came out strong, making seven of its first nine shots as it jumped out to a 19-8 lead in the first seven minutes. Five straight points brought Louisiana within six, but a three from Denver Anglin followed by a jumper from Caden Powell pushed Rice's lead back to 11. The teams battled throughout the half, as Rice kept the lead between seven and 11 points. However, with the Owls leading 39-28, Louisiana closed the final 2:37 on a 12-2 run as Rice went into halftime leading just 41-40.
The teams opened the half trading baskets. Trae Broadnax hit a layup and Anglin knocked down a three, but UL answered with five of their own. With the game tied at 50, the Owls stepped up their defense. Kellen Amos and Broadnax made baskets, and Louisiana went one-of-two from the line. Aaron Powell and Anglin then bookended a 9-0 Rice run. After a Ragin' Cajun basket, the Owls scored 11 straight points to finish a 28-3 run over a 10 minute stretch to take its largest lead at 78-53 with 2:38 to play, as the Rice defense held Louisiana to just 24.2% shooting in the second half.

Rice connected on 55.1% (27-of-49) from the field, and 38.9% (7-of-18) from three. It was also 22-of-34 (64.7%) from the free throw line. Louisiana was held to just 35.7% (25-of-70) from the floor and 32.0% (8-of-25) from three. Rice outrebounded the Ragin' Cajuns, 45-to-29.
