Two Owls Sweep Flights to Conclude Rice Invitational

HOUSTON - Two Owls swept through their flights to finish the Rice Invitational on a high note on Sunday afternoon.

Darya Schwartzman was the first to complete her flight, downing Jeanette Mireles from Texas A&M, 6-0, 6-1. Nithesa Selvaraj followed that with a three-set victory over UTSA's Letizia Corsini, 6-4, 0-6, 6-4, to sweep through her flight as well.

After falling earlier in the Invitational, Anushka Ashar rebounded with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the consolation bracket in her flight over UTRGV's Valentina Urraco, ending her weekedn on a high note.

In the 3-4 Playoff of the fifth flight, Valentina Ponce fell to UTRGV's Madeleine Joffe, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, and Saara Orav fell in an extra match to UT Arlington's Nika Novikova, 6-4, 6-3, to wrap up the Rice Invitational.

Women's tennis will turn the page to 2025, with the spring schedule releasing soon.
