HOUSTON - The inaugural American Athletic Conference Fall Individual Championship will be hosted on South Main at the George R. Brown Tennis Center, beginning on Thursday, October 24, spanning until Sunday, October 27.
Members of all 11 men's tennis programs and all 13 women's tennis programs across the AAC are sending two to four competitors from each team to take part in the tournament. One doubles tandem and two singles competitors are sent by each program, with the same players being able to compete in both competitions. Competitors who come out victorious in the singles and doubles portions of the tournament will represent the American in the ITA Conference Masters tournament in Rome, Georgia, from November 7 to November 10.
From Rice women's tennis, the team is sending the tandem of Fernanda Martinez and Darya Schwartzman to compete in doubles. They are the second-seeded tandem and have received a first-round bye, so they will not compete until Friday morning. In singles competition, Divna Ratkovic will join Schwartzman in the singles bracket. Both will begin play on Thursday, with Schwartzman beginning in the round of 32, while Ratkovic will begin play in the round of 16 as the fourth-seeded competitor.
From Rice men's tennis, the tandem of Arthus de la Bassetiere and Kabeer Kapasi will represent the Owls in the doubles bracket. They will be off until Friday, earning a first-round bye as the second-seeded tandem. In the singles bracket, de la Bassetiere and Emir Sendogan will both open competition in the round of 32 on Thursday morning.
