Rice Advances to Doubles Quarterfinals in ITA Texas Women's Regional Championship

FORT WORTH, Texas - The doubles tandem of Darya Schwartzman and Fernanda Martinez clinched a spot in the ITA Texas Women's Regional Championship quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon.

Schwartzman and Martinez defeated the tandem of Kostenko and Dong from Baylor by a final score of 8-6 to advance in the bracket. Saara Orav and Nithesa Selvaraj also competed in the round of 16 for a spot in the quarterfinals, but fell 8-1 to the tandem of Ovrootsky and Bowers from the University of Texas.

In singles action, Divna Ratkovic earned Rice's lone singles win of the day downing her opponent from Texas A&M in three sets (7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 6-1). Ratkovic fell in the round of 16 to Ovrootsky from Texas by a score of 6-0, 6-2. Schwartzman also saw her singles run come to an end by falling to Lila from Texas Tech, 6-2, 7-5.

Action continues from Fort Worth on Sunday, October 13.
