Owls Earn Four Pre-qualifiying Wins in ITA Texas Women's Regional Championship

FORT WORTH, Texas - Three Owls turned in pre-qualifying victories to begin Rice's time in the ITA Texas Women's Regional Championship, hosted by TCU, on Thursday morning.

Valentina Ponce was the first Owl to notch a victory in the Qualifying Singles bracket, taking down Texas A&M - Corpus Christi's Juliette Jalai, 6-3, 6-0. Anushka Ashar was next to earn a win, taking down Ireland Simme from Texas State by a score of 6-4, 6-3. Finally, Nithesa Selvaraj clinched the final victory of the day for Rice, taking down Clara Sobius from Tarleton State, 6-2, 6-0.

In the following round, Ponce took a 7-5, 6-4 victory against Lou Chalard from North Texas, to advance to the third round, where she wil take on Felicia Back from Stephen F. Austin.
