IRVING – After tying a school record last weekend at the Robert Platt Invitational, Ese Amata was named the AAC Male Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
"Ese had a super day," said men's track and field head coach Jon Warren. "He not only had the best jump of his life, he also tied Nigel Codrington's 35-year-old school record."
Amata not only won the high jump event title, but had a personal best clearance of 2.18m (7-01.75), tying Codrington's record set in 1989. The marks also moves Amata to 16th in the NCAA.
The Owls will be back in action this weekend at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic.
