Looking to Bounce Back
Rice wraps a quick two-game road trip Thursday night at Sam Houston. The Owls look to snap a two-game losing skid before returning home Sunday against Texas A&M.
Last Time Out
Rice had multiple offensive chances, but couldn't break past the Loyola defense as the Owls were blanked 2-0 on the road against the Greyhounds last Sunday.
Weekly Honors
Halseth was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll after a six-point performance recording a goal and assist against both Texas Southern and Northwestern State. Halseth scored the game-winning goal against the Tigers while assisting on the game-winning goal against the Demons.
A Tough Road Ahead
Rice will face several opponents in 2023 that are either ranked or receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll. The Owls will face No. 20 Memphis, RV Xavier, RV Texas A&M and RV SMU. Rice also faced No. 15 Texas this season.
Rice vs. Sam Houston
The Owls are 6-0 all-time against Sam Houston and have out-scored the Bearkats 19-1 in the series. This is the first matchup since the 2021 season, when Rice blanked Sam Houston 4-0. Rice has shutout the Bearkats in four-straight matches.
New Season, New Conference
The 2023 season marks Rice's inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference (AAC). Rice was one of six schools (Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, UAB and UTSA) to join the conference for this season. Rice is coming off a regular season title in C-USA after posting a 9-0-1 conference record last year.
Three Owls Tabbed for Preseason Honors, Owls Picked Fourth in AAC West
Catarina Albuquerque, Mikala Furuto and Sarah Piper all earned preseason accolades by being named to the AAC Preseason Watch List. Furuto was also selected to the 2022 Second Team All-Conference USA last season. Rice was selected to finish fourth in the AAC West division behind AAC favorite Memphis, SMU and North Texas. UTSA and Tulsa rounded out the last two spots in the poll.
