After earning All-American honors after both NCAA meets this season, Alexander Slinkman has been named the C-USA Male Field Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
"Alexander had a great season culminating with not only two conference meet records, but also with All-American honors," said head coach Jon Warren. "He was extremely impressive throughout this year and I am thrilled for him."
Slinkman becomes the fourth Rice athlete to be named C-USA Field Athlete of the Year and first since Scott Filip won the award in both 2017 and 2018. Clayton Chaney (indoor, 2012) and Jason Colwick (indoor, 2009) also earned the conference honor.
Slinkman closed the 2023 season by earning Second Team All-American honors with an 11th-place finish in pole vault at the NCAA Championships. He also had a second-place finish at the NCAA West Prelims. At the NCAA Indoor Championships, Slinkman earned Second Team All-American honors after a 10th-place finish in pole vault.
Slinkman grabbed his third and fourth C-USA pole vault titles after sweeping the indoor and outdoor meets this season. Slinkman also broke the C-USA meet records at both the indoor and outdoor meets this season with clearances of 5.39m (indoor) and 5.43m (outdoor).
