
Men’s T&F has Four Named CSC Academic All-District

HOUSTON – Rice men's track and field athletes Ese Amata, Corbett Fong, Shaun Kerry and Samuel Woodley were named Academic All-District by the College Sports Communications, the organization announced Wednesday afternoon.
Amata, a junior from Endicott, NY, is a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honoree. He currently holds a 3.51 GPA in Sports Management. Amata is a 2022 C-USA Outdoor champion in high jump and recently finished second and both the indoor and outdoor conference championships this year. He also qualified for the 2023 NCAA West Prelims, where he finished 30th. Amata has earned two C-USA All-Conference honors.
Fong, a senior from Tomball, Texas, earned C-USA All-Academic honors for the third-straight year earlier this month. He holds a 3.95 GPA in his graduate program while earning a Masters of Bioscience and Health Policy. Last year, Fong was named the C-USA Student Athlete of the Year for track and field and is a four-time honoree of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. He had a fourth-place finish in the decathlon at the 2023 Conference USA Outdoor Championships while winning two events in the decathlon. He later went on to place seventh in the javelin earning seven total points at the championships.
Kerry, a junior from Driffield, England, is a two-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Medal honoree. He was also named to the 2020-22 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team and currently holds a 3.90 GPA in Neuroscience and Psychological Sciences. Kerry recently was crowned the hammer throw champion at the 2023 C-USA Outdoor Championships, his first conference title, while also qualifying for the 2023 NCAA West Prelims.
Woodley, a junior from Ware, England, is a four-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Medal honoree. He is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic and currently holds a 3.90 GPA in Sports Management and German Studies. Woodley most recently took a third-place finish in discus at the 2023 C-USA Outdoor Championships while also qualifying for the NCAA West Prelims. He was also the discus runner-up at the 2022 outdoor conference championships.
