
Owls Place Five on All-Silver Glove Team

Annual series with Houston
Rice placed five on the 2023 All-Silver Glove team as selected by media who covered the annual three-game baseball series between Rice and Houston.
Jack Riedel, Connor Walsh, and Garret Zaskoda were repeat selections and were joined by Pierce Gallo and Ben Royo. Houston was represented by catcher Anthony Tulimero, infielders Justin Murray, Zach Arnold, outfielders Drew Bianco, and Brandon Uhse, and pitchers Kyle Ayers and Owen Woodward. Arnold was named the series MVP.
Walsh was named as an outfielder, Gallo at second base and Royo at shortstop, Zaskoda as a pitcher and Riedel was the Wild Card selection.
Royo led the Owls with a .500 average in the three games, homering in each game and driving in eight runs, matching Riedel for the series lead. Riedel hit .400 and hit a pair of homers in the series' final game, driving in six of his eight runs. Walsh hit .429 in two games Gallo led all infielders with 13 assists. Zaskoda picked up the win in relief in the series finale for the second straight year with three innings of work.
In 1998, the annual baseball series between Rice and Houston was branded as the Silver Glove Series. Rice has won the series in 18 times since the series began, posting a 63-32 record.
