
Slinkman, Welsh Set C-USA Records, Owls Lead After Day Three

DENTON – The Rice men's track and field team had a great showing in Day 3 of the C-USA Championships, taking the overall team score lead after two event titles (both C-USA records) and several additional top finishes.
Alexander Slinkman opened the day by setting the C-USA record in pole vault with a height of 17-09.25 while also winning the event. Grant Levesque and Natan Rivera added points for the Owls with third and fifth place finishes, respectively.
Shortly after, Sam Welsh set another C-USA record for Rice on the day, this one in the discus, with a throw of 195-05 to win the event. The Owls placed four in the event with Samuel Woodley in third, Nick Hicks in fifth and Jorge Hinojosa in seventh.
Ese Amata grabbed silver in the high jump while Patrick Elizondo finished in fifth place. Andrew Murray grabbed the last points for the Owls with a seventh-place finish in the steeplechase.
