Rice with Several Top Performances at UH, San Diego

HOUSTON – The Rice men's track and field team had a strong showing at the Cameron Burrell Alumni Invitational at the University of Houston and the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego.
Ese Amata took the only event title for Rice at UH, winning the high jump. Grant Levesque finished second in the javelin while Luke Ivy finished fifth in javelin and third in long jump. Natan Rivera and Javier Alatorre went 2-3 in the pole vault.
On the track, Davis Thames and Ronen Oosthuizen finished 3-4 in the 800m, with Nathan Turman finishing eighth.
At the Triton Invitational, Elian Ahmar won the college portion of shot put while finishing second overall. Shaun Kerry, Cal Abdulky and Nick Hicks went 4-6-7 overall (2-4-5 college) in the hammer throw. Sam Welsh and Samuel Woodley went 1-3 in the college portion of discus (6th and 12th overall, respectively).
For the weekend, the Owls had 18 top-10 finishers with 15 placing in the top five.
