
Owls Host Fifth Consecutive Ranked Foe on Saturday

In Brief: The 44th-ranked Rice women's tennis team closes out a stretch of five consecutive matches against teams ranked nationally when they host #54 SMU at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Saturday. First serves for the match, which will be held in conjunction with a men's match vs. UTSA, are set for 11 a.m.

The Owls: Rice is 10-6, 8-3 at GRBTC and 5-0 in Conference USA. They moved up to 44th in the ITA computer rankings after edging #36 FIU 4-2 last Sunday. Today's match is the fifth and final of five consecutive matches against teams ranked in ITA Top 75. The stretch opened with a win at #30 Charlotte and then continued with wins at home over #57 Brown and #36 FIU and a loss to #64 South Florida.
SMU: The Mustangs are 10-7 this year and moved up two spots to #54 in the ITA computer rankings after downing #68 Tulsa 4-0 at home last Saturday. This weekend's meeting with the Owls is the first of two on the road this weekend against ranked foes as SMU wraps up the trip by facing #40 Baylor on Sunday. The Mustangs' doubles team of Taylor Johnson and Jackie Nylander is ranked 54th this week while Hadley Doyle is ranked 120th in singles.
George R. Brown Tennis Center: Rice has posted a 72-18 regular-season record at GRBTC (14-0 in C-USA play) since making their debut at their new home by defeating Lamar 7-0 on 1/17/15. The Owls have also posted a 6-0 postseason mark while winning a pair of Conference USA titles at home (2015 & 2019).
